Experience an Old-fashioned Christmas in Historic Salem, N.J.

If you are looking to escape big city crowds for something more intimate, look no further than Salem City, New Jersey. Our historic homes and streets will be decorated with wreaths, garlands, and twinkling lights. Luminaries will light up Market Street. Storefront windows will be decorated and Salem City businesses and eateries will be open that night.

4pm-6pm Children will delight in meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus and leaving their Christmas letters in Santa’s Mailbox. Santa will be in his sleigh while children will be invited to visit at a distance. Elves will be on hand to help the children write a letter to Santa and post their letter in Santa’s mailbox. Mr. & Mrs. Claus will be located at the Fenwick Plaza on Broadway. Musical performances will be held at the Presbyterian Manse at 60 Market St. from 3pm-7pm. The Delaware Brass Band will play tunes dating back to the 1800’s.
3pm -7pm Visit the Old Swedish low log cabin Between 13 and 15 Market St. for a glimpse of a Swedish “Christmas of Olde.” It will be decorated for a Swedish Christmas.

3pm-5pm Experience the true meaning of Christmas with the Live Nativity at St. John’s Episcopal Church on 60 Market Street. There you will find the shepherds with their animals sitting around the campfire and the angel bringing the news of a baby being born in nearby Bethlehem. Visitors will find the three kings and their servants in an elaborate oriental tent bedding down for the night as they continue the journey following a star that leads them to the babe in the manger. And finally, there is the stable with the Holy Family and the newborn Son of God, along with the Angel who watches over them, singing to the Baby and all who come to visit. The Angel will be singing every half hour during the live nativity.
