The Language of Nature: Eco-Poetry
with Winifred Hughes Spar
The natural world has been a source of inspiration for poets through the ages. How do contemporary poets write about the natural world today? How do they respond in language to the cascading environmental and climate crises unfolding around us? How are we “apart” from our environment, and how are we “a part” of it? These are some of the questions we will ask in this course, while reading classic nature poetry and cutting-edge contemporary work from writers such as Gary Snyder, A. R. Ammons, Tommy Pico, Camille Dungy, Forrest Gander, and more. New selections are included this year.
The course will meet in person with a virtual option from 7:00 to 8:30 pm on Thursdays, February 2, 9, 16 and 23.
