Enjoy 1-day hikes at different points of historical interest and natural beauty throughout our great state! These special hikes typically range between 7-8 miles over 3-4 hours at a moderate pace over all types of terrain. Don't forget a daypack with a rain/wind jacket, plenty of water, and a bagged lunch to enjoy at the mid-point of the hike. Time permitting, we stop for ice cream at a local confectionary, so please bring $10 with you as well. These hikes are geared towards level 3 and 4 senior hike participants, but is open to non-regular senior hike participants as well. In the event of inclement weather, we will make a decision on cancellation/rescheduling by 7:00 am the day of the hike.
Rating: Moderate/quick pace; rocky trails with inclines and declines.
Enjoy the scenic hike up Columbia Trail and down into Ken Lockwood Gorge in High Bridge, NJ. There are mostly dirt/gravel/and paved trails, but be prepared for seasonally different conditions at this time of year. There is plenty of wildlife to see, and we will stop by the falls along the Raritan River. Please plan to arrive at the Dorbrook Activity Center parking lot at least 10-15 minutes early, to ensure prompt departure time.
